Children’s Ministry

Children are a blessing from God, and we consider it a privilege to minister to them. Jesus told us that we are to do our part in bringing children to Him (Matthew 19:14). At Great Neck Baptist, we want to provide a loving environment where children are taught the Bible and nurtured in faith. In order to do this we emphasize the following ministries.

Nursery – Preschool

What to Expect: Children, birth through four years of age, are well taken care of in the church nursery.  The nursery is open for all services on Sunday morning and Wednesday night.  The purpose of the nursery is to provide a clean, safe, happy loving Christ centered environment where children can learn about God. All nursery workers have had background checks.

Kindergarten – 6th Grade

GNBC offers the following ministries to help parents raise their children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

Sunday School – meets at 9:30 every Sunday morning.  Parents can drop off their children and attend an adult Bible fellowship.  Sunday school is a proven method of teaching children the stories of the Bible and the importance of knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Children’s Worship – Immediately following Sunday School, 4-year-old children through those in 3rd grade have the opportunity to attend Children’s Church. During this time, children will have the opportunity to have a Bible lesson.

AWANA“Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” meets on Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. during the school year. Children work at their own pace in learning Scripture and developing Christian foundations. Awana is for children ages 3 through 6th grade. AWANA was put on hold this year due to COVID-19, but we hope to return in the fall of 2021.

Vacation Bible School – Check back for more information about our 2021 VBS.

UPWARD Basketball and Cheerleading – for children K-5 through 8th Grade.  Kids are taught the fundamentals of basketball and sportsmanship in a faith-friendly environment. Our 2020-2021 season was cancelled due to COVID-19, but we hope to be back in late 2021.

Every person who volunteers in any ministry involving children is required to have a current background check as well as undergo our Child Protection Policy Training.
