Basic Beliefs

THE BIBLE – We believe the Bible is the Word of God, without error and completely trustworthy in all it means. The Bible is the supreme and final authority for faith and life.

GOD – We believe in One God who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This Triune God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe.

JESUS CHRIST – We believe Jesus is the eternal Son of God who was born of the Virgin Mary and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross as a substitute for sinful people. He rose bodily from the dead and ascended to heaven where he is now exalted at the right hand of God. He is fully God and fully man. He is the only way of reconciliation between God and man. He will return in power to judge the world and restore all things.

THE HOLY SPIRIT – We believe the Holy Spirit is God. He is in the world to convict people of their sin and bring restoration to God through Jesus Christ. He indwells, gifts, and empowers believers to live a life of service that is pleasing to God.

PEOPLE – Man is made in the image of God. “He created them male and female,” as the supreme object of His creation. Although every person has potential for good, all are marred in the willful condition of disobedience to God called “sin.” Sin separates us from God and makes us deserving of his wrath. This condition necessitates our need for the only Savior, Jesus Christ.

SATAN – We believe Satan is a real spirit being who sinned against God and led humanity into rebellion. He is the enemy of God and God’s people. He rules over the demons and causes mayhem in the world. At the return of Christ he and the demons will be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity.

SALVATION – We believe that all humans are separated from God by sin and under condemnation. God loves people and has made a way to be “saved” or delivered from sin. Salvation is entirely by the grace of God through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as atonement for sin and a substitute for the sinner. It cannot be earned but is offered freely to all who call upon Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Good works by the believer are a result of salvation, not the cause. Having received salvation, the believer is eternally secure in Christ and cannot lose or forfeit it.

THE CHURCH – The church is the spiritual body of Christ composed of all true believers in Christ. The local church gathers regularly for worship, instruction, fellowship, and service. The two ordinances of the church are baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

CHRISTIAN LIVING – God calls believers to live a life devoted to him. The believer’s lifestyle should be characterized by love for God and people. Obedience to God as explained in the Bible and joyful service in the power of the Holy Spirit should distinguish the Christian.

THE FUTURE – We believe that Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to earth to judge all people. Unbelievers will be consigned to everlasting punishment in hell. Believers will dwell forever with the Lord in heaven. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.
